NewStory Center Hosts Event Highlighting
Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Rutland, Vermont – Please join NewStory Center for “Coffee and Conversation: Sexual Violence in Rutland County” on Thursday, April 17, 2025 from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at The HUB CoWorks, 67 Merchants Row, Rutland, VT 05701. “Coffee and Conversation” is being presented as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. A panel discussion, featuring representatives from local agencies, will give a general overview of sexual assault in Rutland County, what prevention efforts are currently happening, and discuss what more can be done. This event is being presented in partnership with the Rutland County Domestic and Sexual Violence Task Force. Coffee and refreshments will be served. Sexual assault is a widespread issue. Nearly one in five women and 1 in 71 men are reported to be survivors of sexual assault. NewStory Center provides support to survivors of sexual assault through emergency shelter, medical and legal advocacy, counseling and case management, and referrals to area resources. In 2024, NewStory Center accompanied 7 survivors during sexual assault nurse exams at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Additionally, NewStory Center provides prevention efforts throughout the communities of Rutland County in an effort to prevent future incidents of sexual violence.
